Works that are eligible for competition must have been completed after January 1, 2019 and must not have been publicly exhibited on Guam prior to the Festival.

Please note that the 2020 edition of the Guam International Film Festival will be exhibited via online streaming and local Guam television broadcast. As a non-profit community festival, GIFF does not provide screening fees, hotel/travel accommodations or guaranteed competition status in exchange for screening your film. We kindly ask that you do not enter your film if you do not agree with the above.

Mandatory Made-for-Television Edits (Mature Content and Subtitles)
Because of the nature of our partnership to exhibit the GIFF 2020 Official Selection lineup with PBS Guam via online streaming and television broadcast, we must exhibit only edited-for-television versions of any films that contain mature content. We know that it may be time-consuming to do so, so we want to thank you for your patience and understanding.

To help make it easier for you, you may opt to make any necessary edits yourself prior to submission, or you may allow GIFF/PBS Guam editorial staff to make any minimal, yet necessary edits to comply with the PBS national broadcast standards. This includes the censoring of any gratuitous nudity, violence, expletives, or anything else that may be deemed not safe for a television audience.

The made-for-television edits may also apply to any subtitles that are not within title-safe guidelines for broadcast. Please note that films containing subtitles which are placed beyond the title-safe broadcast requirement, may be squeezed in proportional scale in order to accommodate the television viewer’s ability to read them.

Should you have any questions, please email our programming department at programming[at]guamfilmfestival.org.

Films may be of any length, and of any genre, including features, documentaries, shorts, animation, student films and music videos. Be sure to refer to our GIFF category guidelines below. We are particularly interested in presenting U.S. and World Premieres. The Festival will not consider works-in-progress or films with temporary sound tracks. All films with dialogue in a language other than English must be subtitled in English for Festival submission and Festival presentation.
